Welcome to Psychosylum.net
Psychosylum: (Psych/osylum: sike·o-·si-·lu(m)
Psych refers to psychology which can be referred back to psychic, which is considered part of paranormal behavior.
In the historic sense of this term…ASYLUM refers to a sanctuary where outcasts were protected. This site allows paranormal believers to visit and not be treated as outcasts (as many sometimes are). The word Asylum has been personalized (changed) to Osylum in representation of the Old World… which also refers back to the paranormal nature. |

Ghostbusters scour old prison

Who Ya Gonna Call to make sense of things going bump in the night at the old Napier Prison? Ghost Hunters of course.
Faces hovering at the end of a bed, the unexplainable sound of footsteps, locks on doors opening and shutting on their own - eerie stories like these have haunted the old prison for years.
In it's 140 years the former penitentiary has seen at least five hangings along with other inmate deaths, all great fodder for ghost stories amongst staff at the now popular backpackers hostel.
"I can sort of only explain it as I saw like a white sort of cloud just out of the corner of my eye and then the association door closed, and that's a really heavy door," says Belinda Orlowski, duty manager.
There've been eerie experiences for guests too.
"She just said that there was a weight on the side of her cheek as she was lying in bed on her own in a locked room and a voice saying 'don't move or I'll kill you'," says Marion Waaka, the backpackers owner.

Ghost hunters search Putnam, again
| Posted by admin on Sunday, August 17 @ 00:26:14 EDT (1 reads)
Source: http://www.qctimes.com/
It’s almost midnight, hours and hours after closing time.
We walk slowly, feeling around in complete darkness for the rows of plush seats or a wall — anything to orient ourselves.
We can’t see anything. All of the lights are out at the Putnam Museum’s empty IMAX Theatre. I’m clinging to my sister’s hand as we struggle to sit down.
Then, silence falls, and the ghost hunting begins.
Shining a small red light in front of him, Quad-City area paranormal investigator Kent Amerine of the Iowa Paranormal Advanced Research Team heads to the lower front of the theater. He holds up an electro-magnetic field detector and it suddenly starts tweeting and flashing.
His counterpart, Matthew Sweet, stays near the top of the theater, and his detector is going off, too. He shines his temperature-reading laser into the room, and it shows the temperature is dropping and fluctuating from an initial reading of 76 degrees to about 68 degrees, and then slowly goes back up again.
This could be a sign of paranormal activity.
Sweet gets on the walkie-talkie, telling someone else to record this activity.

Richard Hammond buys haunted Herefordshire castle

Richard Hammond has bought a castle in Herefordshire. Hammond and his family may not be the only occupants of his new home; the 18th century castle is said to be haunted by its first owner.
Top Gear star Hammond paid £2m for his Herefordshire castle, according to HELLO! magazine. The luxury castle is set in 20 acres and has six bedrooms.
Hammond, wife Mindy and their two daughters will be moving from their home in Gloucestershire to the "sprawling" property, which has an indoor pool, stables and extensive outbuildings.
However, the family may not be alone; it is said that the castle is haunted by the ghost of its first owner, an English man who died heartbroken after being jilted by his Spanish lover.

'Real life' ghost hunters

On a sweltering Saturday afternoon, only a slight breeze brought relief from the heat.
But instead of sitting home in air-conditioned comfort, a small group from Boston Paranormal Investigators spent the better part of the day roaming among historical sites in Lexington.
They came armed with specialized equipment such as electromagnetic field meters – small, box-like instruments that pick up electromagnetic activity, as well as notebooks and hand-held video cameras.

Is the USS Salem haunted?
| Posted by admin on Tuesday, August 12 @ 18:35:57 EDT (9 reads)
Source: http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/
The bumps in the night could be explained away. The banging of deck hatches – open and shut, open and shut – were easy to ignore.
But when more than one person reported seeing a ghost-like figure toiling at the machinery on the USS Salem’s bow, Michael Condon wondered if more was at play than the typical groans of an aging, Cold War-era cruiser.
“I’m just going to say this: While I have not seen anything, I certainly have heard things,” said Condon, the ship’s executive director.
Is the USS Salem haunted?
A team from Mass Paranormal of Quincy thinks so. The team is planning an all-night investigation aboard the ship on Aug. 23, and it is inviting others to experience the spooky happenings with their own eyes and ears.
Mass Paranormal and the Salem - named for the Massachusetts city - are charging $85 per person for the experience, which will feature an appearance by Shannon Sylvia from the Sci-Fi Channel show “Ghost Hunters International.”
Armed with infrared cameras and parabolic microphones, Mass Paranormal scoured the decks of the 718-foot vessel in July. The Salem never fired its guns in combat but was a symbol of America’s power in the 1950s.

Ghost of Dickens still haunts Edinburgh
| Posted by admin on Monday, August 11 @ 18:14:31 EDT (17 reads)

The ghost of Charles Dickens is walking the Music Hall stage at Edinburgh's Assembly Rooms, 150 years after the great Victorian novelist appeared in person at the same location to read his works.
Veteran actor Simon Callow, who has toured the world with his acclaimed one-man show "The Mystery of Charles Dickens", is appearing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to sell-out houses with enactments of two of the novelist's lesser known stories.
Dickens himself appeared on the Music Hall stage in March 1858 to read "A Christmas Carol" to a packed audience of the Philosophical Institute shortly after he had begun reading his works professionally for profit.

Ghost hunters converge in Evesham
| Posted by admin on Monday, August 11 @ 18:12:22 EDT (12 reads)
Source: http://www.easier.com/
A cellar monk, green mists, strange breezes and dragging sounds are among the things members of the public will hopefully experience in Evesham next month. Fright Nights, the UK’s leading ghost hunt specialist, will be holding two Ghost Fairs and an overnight Ghost Hunt at haunted locations in Evesham, Worcestershire. It would seem the residents of Evesham are already fascinated with ghosts that haunt the festival town. Tickets for one particular Ghost Hunt to be held at Salford Hall on 19 September has already sold out.
However, on 20 & 27 September, members of the public can take part in a Ghost Fair held at the notoriously haunted Evesham Town Hall. The event, which starts at 10am and finishes at 5pm, costs £20 per ticket. A Psychic Fair will feature a vast range of stalls ranging from Reiki to Palmistry and Native America teachings to Tarot. There are also a number of special workshops taking place run by experts in spiritualism, mediumship and healing. These include ‘Messages from the Spirit world’, ‘The Art of Palmistry’, ‘The Darker side of Tarot’ and ‘Reiki for the new Millennium’.
On 27 September, members of the public can experience a special mini Ghost Hunt. ‘The Spiritus Ghost Hunt’, which starts at 9pm and finishes at 12:30pm, costs £30 per ticket. The night begins with a ghost tour of the town visiting the site of the Bloody Battle of Evesham and the haunted graveyard. Visitors will hear the tale of the haunted shoe shops, terrible punishments carried out in the Town Square, the appearance of the Virgin Mary and the statue that moves.
The next part of the evening takes place at “Spiritus” – a 500 year old haunted building. The Bloody Battle of Evesham took place outside Spiritus and soldiers were known to run into the building for cover as many were quite literally, hacked to pieces. The final part of the evening will feature ghost hunting vigils in the buildings most haunted areas including the cellar.

Travel to spook U.S. with 'Haunted'
| Posted by admin on Sunday, August 03 @ 00:36:22 EDT (16 reads)

Paranormal series Most Haunted has been spirited away to the US where production is underway on a remake.
Target Entertainment has secured a deal with the Travel Channel that will see eight episodes produced by Antix, the Stockport-based indie behind the UK series. It is due to air the series this autumn as well as a live Most Haunted event, of which 2 x 60-minute instalments will be broadcast on 10 October from 8am to 3am.
The US version has been co-commissioned by Travel Channel and Virgin Media TV, the owner of Living which airs the UK series. Like the original show, a team of investigators will visit infamously haunted locations and capture their experiences on camera.
In addition, Travel Channel has acquired series 10 (20 x 60-minutes) of the UK show.
Ellen Lovejoy, senior vice president of sales at Target Entertainment, said: "The fact that original episodes will be produced in the US, using US locations, is really exciting. They are sure to be a hit stateside and will appeal to Living's core audience as well."

Ghostly noises recorded at Bishop museum
| Posted by admin on Sunday, August 03 @ 00:32:36 EDT (20 reads)
Source: http://www.owensoundsuntimes.com/
Ghostly yells and eerie grumbling noises were picked up by a team of paranormal investigators as they visited the Owen Sound boyhood home of First World War flying ace Billy Bishop.
The haunting sounds come across relatively clear on a tape recording of the late night investigation at the national historic site, but were not heard by any of the participants.
The sounds — which include a raspy male voice whispering what sounds like “Paula!” — have even put skeptical Billy Bishop Home and Museum manager Mary Smith a step closer to believing in the paranormal.
“They may make me into a believer,” she said in an interview at the museum. “They’ve got my curiosity up.”
A Barrie-based, non-profit group of paranormal investigators staked out the 3rd Avenue West museum last month to find out if it is haunted. The participants, including a psychic and museum employee, were in the brick house from about 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Investigators used a tape recorder, video surveillance and heat sensors to detect spirits or ghosts. Some objects were tagged and monitored to see if they were moved by paranormal forces and the participants watched for shadows or other unusual occurrences.
The only evidence of possible paranormal activity collected by the investigators was three recordings of so-called Electronic Voice Phenomenon. EVP is sections of static noise on a tape recording that paranormal investigators interpret as the voices of spirits or ghosts.

Scaring up tourism dollars at the Harvey House
| Posted by admin on Sunday, August 03 @ 00:27:37 EDT (26 reads)
Source: http://www.desertdispatch.com/
If you take a moonlit walk around the Harvey House, you may catch a glimpse of “Rachel,” the spirit of a 1920s-era Harvey Girl.
At least, that’s what the 30-plus people who signed up for this weekend’s Haunted Barstow Ghost Tour at the Harvey House are hoping for.
Bill Cook, former tour guide of the Calico Ghost Walk at Calico Ghost Town, hopes that the Harvey House ghost tours may become a regular weekly event, drawing out-of-town spirit aficionados to Barstow.
The pilot ghost walks, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, were timed to coincide with the American Fastpitch Association softball tournament being held at the Robert A. Sessions Memorial Sportspark, said Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jeri Justus. A number of softball families signed up for the tour, but Cook said other out-of-towners made the trip to Barstow specifically for the Ghost Tour.
Justus and Cook believe that regular ghost walks could encourage more people to stop in Barstow for a night, pumping dollars into local hotels and restaurants.
